Welcome to the Department of Theatre’s Undergraduate Studies! When you join this department as an undergraduate theater major, you partner with a rich tradition of University of Missouri theatre students and professors who have been working as artist/scholars in the field of theatre since the turn of the 20th Century.

Mizzou undergraduate theatre majors have taken their work to the American College Theatre Festival at the Kennedy Center, winning awards in acting, playwriting, design, and dramaturgy. Our alumni include such gifted performers as George C. Scott, Tom Berenger, Jon Hamme, and playwrights like Tennessee Williams, Sean Clark, and Eric Wilson.

Working within the concept of theatre as a liberal art, and as part of a department that offers a PhD in theater research, our undergraduate students can focus on performance, playwriting, or theatrical design/technology - and most combine these skills within our generalist BA major. Working with doctoral research faculty and with our professionally-trained directors and designers, our students have gone onto work in the professional theater, professional graduate training programs in theater, research and teaching, and into many different communications-related fields.

With many different academic projects such as the World Theatre Workshop, the Missouri Playwrights Workshop, the Troubling Violence Performance Project, and our Interactive Theatre Program, students will find opportunities to perform, design, and write about theatre in addition to working on full theatrical productions our busy Main Stage Academic Season and Summer Repertory Theatre. So come join us as a theatre major or minor, and be a part of the Mizzou Theatre tradition!
