Welcome from the Director of Undergraduate Studies
Welcome to the Department of Theatre’s Undergraduate Studies!
When you join our department as an undergraduate theatre major, you partner with a rich tradition of MU students, faculty, and staff who have been working as artists, scholars, and teachers in the field of theatre for many years.
The MU Department of Theatre offers the best of a liberal arts experience. Working with a stellar doctoral research faculty and professionally trained actors, directors, and designers, our undergraduate majors focus on performance, writing for performance, and theatre design and technology. Most students combine these areas of study and their areas of interest within our Bachelor of Arts curriculum.
Throughout your academic career at MU, you will have the opportunity to participate on stage and behind the scenes in a variety of productions -- from main stage faculty-directed musicals and plays, to student-directed shows, ensembles and workshops. Our students are integral to the success of our special programs, which include The World Theatre Workshop, The Missouri Playwrights Workshop, The Troubling Violence Performance Project, The Larry Clark Actor’s Workshop, our Interactive Theatre Troupe, and the Alpha Psi Omega Honorary Society.
MU undergraduate theatre students take their work to the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festivals, winning awards in acting, playwriting, design, and dramaturgy. After graduation, many of our students find work in film, television, and the professional theatre as actors, directors, designers, stage managers, artists, and technicians or go on to graduate school to further their theatre education. You’ll find a network of MU Theatre alumni producing, presenting, and teaching theatre in schools and theatres across the country.
We invite you to join us as a theatre major or minor, and become a part of the MU Theatre tradition! Explore our site to learn more about our department, our people, and our productions. Come see one of our shows, audition for a student-directed project, or read a new play at The Missouri Playwrights Workshop. Or just stop by the theatre sometime -- you’ll find there’s always something going on!
