Two dazzlingly experimental, dreamlike plays, by one of America’s most adventurous playwrights, which explore the uncomfortable divide between black and white America through the eyes of a young African-American women in a gorgeous, furious burst of poetry, imagery, and sound.

The Wiz

The Super Soul Musical “Wonderful Wizard of Oz”, winner of seven Tony awards in 1975

A modern retelling of L. Frank Baum’s classic children’s story reflecting contemporary African-American music and culture featuring a multi-cultural cast. After Dorothy gets swept up in a tornado, she finds herself in the fantastical world of Oz. An explosion of magic and heart for audiences of all ages.

To celebrate the centennial anniversary of the ratification of the nineteenth amendment, MU Theatre presents an adaptation of Elizabeth Robbins’s 1906 feminist classic. Our production relocates the action to America, where suffragists marched, preached, wrote, sang, rallied, went to prison and rode horses down Fifth Avenue to win “the free delights of women’s rights!”

This play by the Puerto Rican playwright earned him the 1993 Obie Award for Playwriting.

In a world where apples are extinct and people turn into mounds of salt, the angels plot an epic battle to save the human race. To survive on her own, Marisol, a Puerto-Rican woman from the Bronx embarks on a magical journey through the apocalypse.
