Greetings from the University of Missouri Department of Theatre and Performance Studies!

When you join our department as an undergraduate theatre major, you partner with a rich tradition of Mizzou students, faculty and staff who have been working artists, scholars and teachers in the field of theatre for nearly 100 years! We are an incredibly divers community full of artists of all kinds. The theatre community at Mizzou is a safe space where everyone is radically welcomed.

The Department of Theatre and Performance Studies offers the best in liberal arts education. Working with a stellar faculty and staff, professionally trained actors, directors, designers, practitioners and scholars our students can pursue 3 tracks for earning their bachelor’s degree: performance, writing for performance and theatre design and technology.

Throughout your academic career, y9ou will have the opportunity to participate on stage and behind the scenes in a variety of productions. This includes working on mainstage faculty directed musicals and plays as well as being a part of ensembles, groups and workshops. Some of these opportunities include:

  • The Missouri Playwrights Workshop/Mizzou New Play Series
  • Alpha Psi Omega Theatre Honorary Society
  • Community Garden Food Pantry
  • LGBT+ Group
  • Interactive Theatre Troupe
  • Larry D. Clark Summer Repertory Theatre

Mizzou Theatre and Performance Studies students have taken their work to the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, winning awards in acting, playwrighting, theatre criticism, design and dramaturgy. After graduation, many of our students find work in film, television, and professional theatre as actors, director, designers, stage managers, artists, technicians or go on to graduate schools to further their work as artists/scholars. You will discover a network of Mizzou Theatre graduates throughout the country and beyond!
